We showcased the latest developments of the WAVESS project on satellite -and USV- derived bathymetry, supported by ESA PhiLab Net Spain.

Spascat recently took part in the Digital Catalonia Alliance Espai event, a meeting that brought together companies and organizations from the Catalan NewSpace sector to share projects, experiences, and collaborations carried out over the past year.

During the event, Spascat presented WAVESS, a project developed with the support of ESA Phi-Lab NET Spain, which enables the acquisition of near real-time bathymetry data from satellite imagery and aquatic drones (USVs). This tool facilitates coastal monitoring, seabed change detection, and coastal risk management, with applications in coastal engineering, environmental protection, and shoreline management. The project is conducted through a consortium formed by Spascat, GPA Seabots, and CTTC.

The event featured leading companies and institutions from the Catalan NewSpace and digital ecosystem, who shared their projects and initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration among DCA members. Other notable projects from ESA Phi-Lab NET Spain were also presented by Isardsat, Geoskop, and EarthPulse.

Throughout the day, IEEC also introduced new use cases for Earth Observation, in which SPASCAT is involved through the REMOT project — an initiative focused on the intelligent management of irrigation sectors using satellite data, developed in collaboration with Agropixel and Codorníu.

We sincerely thank the DCA-Espai team for organizing the event and for providing a collaborative space that drives innovation and cooperation within Catalonia’s space industry ecosystem. We also extend our appreciation to ESA Phi-Lab NET Spain, the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC), the Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC), ESA BIC Barcelona, and the Spanish Space Agency (AEE) for their continued support and collaboration.
