A use case: a success story. We present MOT, a project born from the 1st Call for Earth Observation Use Case Ideas for the Private Sector.

MOT (Earth Observation Module) was developed with the goal of reducing the number of hours vineyard managers spend on field monitoring. With MOT, we automate these processes through the effective use of satellite imagery, such as those from Copernicus program and the Menut nanosatellite, promoted by the Government of Catalonia. MOT has implemented an innovative methodology based on satellite data to improve agricultural management, providing precise information to optimize production in Catalonia’s wine and fruit-growing sectors.

The project has been developed in collaboration with the agri-tech consulting firm AGROPIXEL and the winemaking company Raventós Codorníu, which has used the tool for fieldwork at its Raimat vineyards.

The initiative, coordinated by the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) in collaboration with the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), is part of the NewSpace Strategy driven by the Government of Catalonia and carried out in collaboration with IEEC, i2CAT, and ICGC.
