Spascat has been selected for the second year as a winner of the Use Case Ideas competition for the Private Sector. We build upon our previous work of EO applications for the viticulture sector.

We are thrilled to announce that SPASCAT has been selected as one of the winners in the second edition of the Earth Observation Use Case Contest for the Private Sector, organized by the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia IEEC. This initiative is part of the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia and aims to promote the use of satellite data in business applications.

Our winning proposal, REMOT, focuses on optimizing irrigation management in vineyards by inferring plant water stress through the integration of satellite multispectral imagery, field samples, and predictive models. The project will be developed in collaboration with Agropixel and Codorníu, with the goal of providing a web-based tool that supports technicians in planning irrigation based on crop needs.

As part of the contest requirements, REMOT will incorporate data from the Menut nanosatellite and will be demonstrated in the Catalan territory. The project will also be included in the ESA Phi-LabNET Spain portfolio, which supports the transfer of space-based solutions to the market.

Target

Detail view of a parcel on the MOT platform

This new project builds on the work carried out last year with the MOT (Mòdul d’Observació de la Terra) platform, which enabled automatic satellite image retrieval, parcel sectorization based on vegetation indices, homogeneity tracking, and optimized inspection planning. MOT was developed as a web application to help vineyard technicians identify which parcels require attention, plan inspection routes efficiently, and process field results, all while minimizing the need for manual data handling. The tool was created in collaboration with Agropixel and Codorníu and is currently in use by their technical teams. With REMOT, we aim to extend these capabilities to address irrigation management, continuing our focus on practical solutions that support the daily work of agronomic professionals.
