WAVESS demonstrates its capabilities at the Rota naval base

On the 27th and 28th of May, our partners Seabots carried out an operational demonstration at the Rota naval base (Cádiz), in front of the Spanish Navy and the Naval Support Section of the Instituto Hidrográfico de la Marina (IHM).

The test is part of WAVESS, a project awarded by the European Space Agency within ESA Phi-Lab Spain, led by Spascat and developed together with Seabots and the CTTC, with a clear ambition: to transform the way decisions are made in coastal operational environments.

WAVESS combines satellite data with real field readings obtained by Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) to generate accurate and scalable bathymetric and environmental maps. Demonstrations like this one, in front of institutional end users such as the Navy and the IHM, are a key step to validate the technology in real operational scenarios and to bring satellite-derived bathymetry closer to the hydrographic and coastal-management community.
